Dark Knight second-highest grossing film in US history
From the Telegraph:
The Dark Knight has overtaken the original Star Wars to become the second-highest grossing film in US history, taking over $471 million at the domestic box office in 30 days.
The new total means the latest instalment of the Batman franchise, from UK director Christopher Nolan, is closing in the all-time leader, Titanic, which boasts domestic sales of just under $601 million.
Star Wars earned $461 million after its May 1977 release.
With inflation taken into account, however, the Batman release still lags well behind both films in actual ticket sales and would need to gross about $900 million to match the number for Titanic (which came out in 1998) and about $1.2 billion to equal Star Wars.
